Mythbusters: ‘Financial Markets are doing nothing’

I couldn’t believe what I was hearing when one investor told me the financial markets were doing nothing at the moment. My response was to ask him what his ideal stock market looks like and suggested a few options:

  • Stocks that appreciate by 60% year to date by the end of Q1?
  • Stocks trading within 2% of multi-year lows?
  • An Index that has offered 100 point moves in excess of 10 times in a month?

The above sound like a dream scenario, right? Well it’s time to wake up because this is happening now! I’m not talking about small-cap fairy tales either, these are blue chip stocks and the UK 100 Index.

If you had bought mining stocks Glencore (GLEN) or Anglo American (AAL) at the start of this year, you would be sitting on a 60-75% profit right now. Barclays (BARC) is trading within 2% of a 4 year low, with city analysts assigning punchy price targets on average 46% higher, where next? There is also the option of trading the index itself. The UK 100 has traded between 6100 and 6200 on more than 10 occasions in March. Providing you had called the direction right, a single contract could have yielded a £1,000 profit, 10 times!

However, it’s all well and good me writing about events gone by but how are you going to know what opportunities the market will bring in April? The Research Team at Accendo Markets can help. On a daily basis it delivers the breaking news and analysis that you, as an investor, need to keep pace with market professionals.

What would happen to your portfolio if say, suddenly, one of your holdings released a profit warning? It doesn’t take a rocket-scientist to figure out where that share price might be headed. But when would you have found out? The pros do not miss a trick, they know straight away and would react immediately. We deliver this sort of information to our clients as it breaks, levelling the playing field.

You don’t have to take my word for it – sample this material free for two weeks, I’m confident you will see the value it offers.
