Markets Overview:


The UK 100 is called to open +1 points at 9,668.  
The UK 100 looks set to start the week a solitary point higher as traders focus on the outcome of a series of key interest rate meetings.

The S&P edged higher on Friday, securing its fourth straight winning day, as traders digested inflation data that could provide further incentive for the Federal Reserve to lower interest rates next week. The broad market index closed 0.19% higher at 6,870.40, putting the index about 0.7% off its intraday record. Friday also marked its ninth positive session in 10. The Nasdaq increased 0.31% to settle at 23,578.13, while the Dow Jones climbed 104.05 points, or 0.22%, to end the day at 47,954.99.

Stock markets across Asia traded mixed on Monday as investors await an interest rate cut decision from the US Federal Reserve, scheduled for later this week.  In Hong Kong, HSI dropped over 255 points, nearing 1% loss to trade at 25,829.  Nikkei, meanwhile, added 44 points to 50,535. Shanghai and Shenzhen also gained 0.8% or 1.74%, respectively. South Korea’s Kospi also traded in green, adding 0.71% to 4,129.

Unilever today said it had completed the demerger of its ice cream division.  Trading in The Magnum Ice Cream Company commences on the Amsterdam, London and New York stock markets today.  The demerger leaves Unilever with its four business groups of beauty and wellbeing, personal care, home care, and foods.  The Magnum Ice Cream Company is home to the brands Magnum, Ben & Jerry’s, Cornetto and Wall’s. It generated 7.9 billion euros (£6.9 billion) in revenue in 2024.
