The UK 100 is called to open +300 points at at 10,648. The UK 100 is set to surge roughly 300 points on Wednesday following a conditional two-week ceasefire between the US and Iran, which halted oil prices below $94/barrel. Asian markets led the recovery, with Japan’s Nikkei jumping 5.5%, while London and European indices reversed earlier losses.
Close Brothers Group PLC forecasts £320 million in costs related to the FCA’s motor finance redress scheme, an increase from its £294 million provision. The scheme covers 720,000 loans (2007–2024), with the group expecting 640,000 to qualify for discretionary commission payouts. Management assumes an average payout of £500 per customer (vs. the industry £829 estimate) and a 75% claim rate.
SSE PLC significantly narrowed its full-year adjusted earnings per share (EPS) guidance to 147p–152p (previously wider ranges). This adjustment reflects strong operational performance but also highlights ongoing pressures from rising infrastructure costs and regulatory changes.
Budget airline easyJet PLC reported a surge in passenger numbers for the first quarter of 2026, driven by a strong recovery in leisure travel to Southern Europe. However, the company warned that fuel hedging costs and airport congestion in peak summer months could compress margins in Q2.
