Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open +18 points at 8664.  The UK 100 looks set to open higher once more this morning, shrugging off threats from US President Trump to imposed tariffs on Mexico and Canada.

In Tokyo on Friday, the Nikkei 225 was up 0.4% in late trade. The S&P/ASX 200 in Sydney had risen 0.5%. Financial markets in Hong Kong and Shanghai remained closed.

Stateside yesterday saw markets posting gains in a bout of rocky trading as investors weighed the latest earnings from Big Tech companies.  The Dow Jones popped 168.61 points, or 0.38%, closing at 44,882.13. At its session highs, it had added nearly 300 points. The S&P rose 0.53% to 6,071.17, while the Nasdaq gained 0.25% to end at 19,681.75.  Stocks cut gains late in the session after President Donald Trump announced his intention to implement 25% tariffs on goods imported from Canada and Mexico.
