Markets Overview:

 

 

The UK 100 is called to open 100 points today at 7144. The UK’s bluechip index looks set to bounce this morning from Fridays mass global sell off, recovering a large part of Fridays loss, as traders bulked at the potential economic impact of the newly-dubbed Omicron Covid variant look set to haunt world markets.  Asia’s main markets, for example, struggled as cases of the mutated virus were pinpointed in clusters thousands of miles away from its source in southern Africa.  China’s Shanghai Composite slipped 0.30% and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index fell 1.20%,  The Nikkei in Japan slumped 1.63% while South Korea’s Kospi dipped 0.89%.  On Friday there was a shortened trading day on Wall Street, The Dow was down 905 points, or 2.5%. The S&P tumbled 2.3% and the Nasdaq slipped 2.2%, futures however look stronger this morning, the Dow Jones has gained 208 points, or 0.6%. S&P 500 futures added 0.82% and Nasdaq 100 futures have risen 1.07%.

BT Group is being considered by Indian oil-to-telecoms giant Reliance Industries for an offer.
Fresnillo/Centamin, gold prices edged higher as concerns over the impact of the possible vaccine-resistant Omicron coronavirus variant, pushed prices higher on its safe-haven appeal.
Miners may see some movement today as copper rose as risk sentiment steadied, after concerns over the Omicron coronavirus variant sparked a global sell-off last week.
Hammerson confirms it is in discussions on terms of a possible disposal of Silverburn. Pricing under discussion is £140m.
