The UK 100 called to open +8 points this morning at 9,224. The UK 100 is poised to open a touch higher after falling for a third consecutive day, its longest losing streak in more than two months. The S&P scored another record close on Thursday as traders pored over Nvidia’s earnings results and forecast. Investors largely looked at the numbers as affirming the AI boom. The broad market index finished 0.32% higher at 6,501.86 after hitting a new all-time intraday high above the 6,500 level. The Nasdaq ended the day up 0.53% at 21,705.16, while the Dow Jones rose 71.67 points, or 0.16% to end at 45,636.90, which was also a record.
As John Wood Group PLC continues takeover discussions with Dubai-based Sidara regarding its core operations, the company is also progressing with the divestment of non-core assets. Today, it announced the sale of its North American transmission and distribution division to U.S. energy firm Qualus for $110 million (£81.5m) in cash. The deal, which follows a competitive bidding process, values the business at 14.9 times its adjusted EBITDA. Sidara’s current “put-up-or-shut-up” deadline, extended again yesterday, is set for 5pm today.
PPHE Hotel Group Ltd saw its shares drop on Thursday after reporting a wider loss, despite a rise in revenue, and lowered its full-year earnings forecast. Shares in PPHE fell 10%, reaching 1,466 in early trading in London. However, the stock has gained 7.4% over the past year. The Amsterdam-based operator of brands like Park Plaza and Art’otel reported a 4.7% increase in total revenue to £199.9 million for the six months ending in June, up from £191.0 million a year earlier.
