Company News:

Barclays on Tuesday reported a first-half profit ‌rise of 17%, beating analysts’ forecasts, as it followed Wall Street peers in reaping ‌bumper equities trading revenues and deal fees this year. The British ‌bank reported profit before tax ‌for January-June of £6.1 billion on Tuesday, just above analysts’ ‌expectations of about £5.94 billion. It also announced a fresh share ‌buyback of £1 billion, above forecasts for £831 million.

Croda has kept its full-year guidance unchanged after reporting higher first-half profits, with strong consumer care sales and transformation savings helping offset continued weakness in parts of its life sciences business.  The Goole-headquartered speciality chemicals group said organic sales rose 4.6% in the six months to 30 June, while adjusted operating profit increased 6.1% to £155.8m.

Unilever raised its full-year sales outlook on Tuesday after second-quarter underlying sales growth accelerated, helped by strong volumes across its biggest brands and momentum in emerging markets.  The maker of Dove soap and Hellmann’s mayonnaise reported underlying sales growth of 5.8% in the second quarter, with underlying volume growth of 5.5%, its strongest volume quarter in more than a decade.  Turnover rose 3.8% to 13.0 billion euros, despite a 2.4% drag from currency movements.  Unilever said it now expects full-year 2026 underlying sales growth within its 4%-6% multi-year guidance range, compared to its earlier forecast of growth at the bottom end of that range. The company sees underlying volume growth of around 3%.  It expects second-half sales growth of 4%-5%, led by pricing, and a modest improvement in full-year underlying operating margin from 20.0% in 2025.
