The UK 100 called to open +53 points this morning at 9,173. The UK 100 looks set to start on the front foot this morning, this comes after a trade deal was agreed between the European Union and the US after high-stakes negotiations at Donald Trump’s luxury golf resort in Scotland. The agreement will see a blanket US tariff of 15% on all EU goods. Details of the deal are still being pored over but, as part of it, Trump also said the EU had promised hundreds of billions of dollars worth of investment and energy purchases.
Stateside saw the S&P rise on Friday as it closed out a winning week following solid earnings results and the latest trade developments. The broad market index jumped 0.40% and posted its 14th record close of the year at 6,388.64. The Nasdaq rose 0.24%, ending at 21,108.32 for its 15th record close in 2025. Both indexes also hit new all-time intraday highs during the session. The Dow Jones also climbed 208.01 points, or 0.47%, to settle at 44,901.92. The 30-stock index ended the session about 0.25% off its Dec. 4 record close of 45,014.04. All three major averages finished the week with gains. The 30-stock Dow posted a roughly 1.3% advance in the period, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq rose 1% and the broad market S&P 500 gained about 1.5%. Friday marked a fifth consecutive day of closing records for the S&P 500, with the index finishing above 6,300 for the first time on Monday. The Nasdaq, meanwhile, has seen four record closes this week, breaking the 21,000 threshold on Wednesday.
Cranswick reported strong trading in the first quarter of the financial year, with a 9.7% increase in revenue compared to the previous year, driven by new business wins and strong demand for premium products. The acquisition of Blakemans contributed positively, and export revenue was bolstered by the reinstatement of the Norfolk pork site’s China export license. The company is accelerating capital expenditure to enhance capacity and efficiency, with significant investment in the Lincoln Pet Products site. Cranswick also refinanced its banking facility, securing a £360 million revolving credit facility to support future growth.
Hengrui Pharma Sunday said that it has entered into agreements with GlaxoSmithKline to develop up to 12 innovative medicines, adding significant value to the globalization strategy of Hengrui and significant new growth opportunities to GSK beyond 2031. The potential total value of future success-based development, regulatory, and commercial milestone payments to Hengrui Pharma is approximately $12 billion if all programs are optioned and all milestones are achieved, the companies said.
