Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open +75 points at 7480.   The UK 100 is expected to make solid progress at the open on Monday after European and US officials attempted to calm renewed jitters in the banking sector.  After initial falls in the US on Friday, the German Chancellor, president of the ECB and the US Treasury Secretary all spoke to reinforce the strength of the banking sector, leading to markets closing higher with the Dow Jones up 0.4%, the S&P 500 up 0.6% and the Nasdaq Composite up 0.3%.  In Asia on Monday, stocks were mixed. The Nikkei 225 index in Tokyo was up 0.5%. In China, the Shanghai Composite was down 0.7%, while the Hang Seng index in Hong Kong was down 0.7%.
