Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open +15 points this morning at 8,750.  The UK 100 looks set to open higher again this morning, continuing yesterdays, albeit modest momentum.  The UK’s bluechip index seems to be taking its cue from a firmer finish on Wall Street last night as US equities approach their all-time highs on the prospect of interest rates being cut.

In Asia this morning, the Nikkei 225 returned above the 40,000 threshold for the first time since January after a surge of more than 2%. However, the Hang Seng index dipped 0.4%.

The S&P rose to within a whisker of a new record Thursday, the culmination of a stunning comeback from lows set in April as the benchmark overcame a wall of worries that included tariff fights, wars and sticky inflation.

The broad market index climbed 0.8% to close at 6,141.02, bringing its gain on the week to 2.9% and putting it just a few points away from the intraday all-time high hit in late February of 6,147.43. The Nasdaq advanced 0.97% to 20,167.91, itself inches away from a new record. The Dow Jones climbed 404.41 points, or 0.94%, to 43,386.84.
