Markets Overview:

 

 

The UK 100 is called to open +10 points today at 7276. A positive open is expected this morning for the UK’s bluchip index of stocks ahead of tomorrows bank holiday Stateside for the Thanksgiving holiday.  On Wall Street yesterday, the Dow Jones closed at 35,813, up 194 points or 0.55%, whilst the S&P edged only marginally higher to finish at 4,690. The Nasdaq fell by 0.5%, to end out the day at 15,775, whilst the small-cap Russell 2,000 index lost 0.15% to end the session at 2,327.  Stocks in Asia this morning were mixed on Wednesday as New Zealand’s central bank raised its cash rate by 25 basis points to 0.75%.  China’s Shanghai Composite gained 0.14% and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index rose 0.60%,  The Nikkei in Japan slumped 1.6% while South Korea’s Kospi slipped 0.08%.

Company News:

Britvic report that their profit after tax rose 9.1% to £103.2m.
De La Rue says that their HY group adjusted operating profit increased by 13.7% to £17.4m.
Johnson Matthey announces a share buyback of £200m after HY underlying operating profit more than doubled to be ahead of pre-pandemic levels on higher precious metals prices and strong demand. They are set to sell its Advanced Technologies business, a supplier to carmakers for £178m.
Mulberry group’s business is returning to pre-pandemic levels with strong sales in the UK and growth in Asia contributing to a 34% jump in H1 revenue.
 
United Utilities report a H1 loss after tax of £216m.
Virgin Money declares a 1p final dividend for FY21.
