Markets Overview:


The UK 100 is called to open -5 points at 9,884.  
The UK 100 looks set to open broadly flat this morning, having rallied later in the session yesterday to close 11 points short of 9900.

Stocks rose for a fourth straight session on Tuesday, as artificial intelligence names continued to outperform during a holiday-shortened week.

The S&P added 0.46%, closing at a record level of 6,909.79. The broad market index is now just below its intraday all-time high of 6,920.34.   The Nasdaq climbed 0.57% to end at 23,561.84. Gains in tech giants Nvidia and Broadcom, which rose around 3% and more than 2%, respectively, lifted the index. The Dow Jones rose 79.73 points, or 0.16%, and settled at 48,442.41.

Barclays and NatWest are among bidders that have got through to the second round for the sale of wealth manager Evelyn Partners, Sky News reported, without saying how it obtained the information.

BP has agreed to sell a majority stake in the Castrol lubricants business to investment company Stonepeak for an enterprise value of $10 billion.  Under the agreement, BP is getting $6 billion for a 65% stake in the group, it said, with the agreement seen completing by the end of 2026. The Wall Street Journal had first reported on the potential deal.  It is one of the assets BP is in the process of selling as part of a $20 billion divestment programme, part of its restructuring process to refocus on its core oil and gas business.

Supermarket Income REIT said it has acquired three UK supermarkets for a total purchase price of £97.6m, at an average net initial yield of 5.5%.
