Markets Overview:

 

UK 100 is called to open +15 points this morning at 7077.  A positive open is expected today on the UK blue chip index, this follows a roaring session stateside yesterday which saw the Dow Jones surging 587 points higher, leaping by 1.8%, the S&P 500 jumped 1.4% and the Nasdaq climbed 0.8%. Stocks in Asia were mostly higher on Tuesday with Japan’s Nikkei surging about 3% in afternoon trade, largely recovering from a 3% tumble on Monday. The Shanghai Composite in China gained 0.59% but Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index fell 0.23%

DS Smith reported a 38% fall in annual pretax profit, as the pandemic impacted its operations initially, but said online shopping boom during the rest of the financial year aided recovery in sales. Statutory profit before tax fell to £231m for the FY (2020: £368m profit).
Melrose said it plans to return around £730m in cash to its shareholders after the company sold its Nortek Air Management business in April.
