The UK 100 called to open +10 points this morning at 8,285. The UK 100 looks set to open marginally higher this morning. While much of Europe was closed due to public holidays on Monday, US markets were open and were certainly not in a holiday mood, with a widespread sell-off across assets.
Stocks fell Stateside on Monday as President Donald Trump ramped up his attacks on Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, raising questions about the central bank’s independence, while traders received few signs of progress on global trade talks. The Dow Jones dropped 971.82 points, or 2.48% to close at 38,170.41. The S&P 500 shed 2.36% and ended at 5,158.20, and the Nasdaq Composite lost 2.55% to settle at 15,870.90. “Magnificent Seven” tech titans dragged the major indexes lower, with Tesla and Nvidia respectively losing 5.8% and more than 4%. Amazon shed 3%, as did Meta Platforms. Equipment manufacturer Caterpillar declined 2.8%.
Asian stocks traded in mixed territory as global investors expressed growing scepticism toward US investments, fuelled by concerns over President Donald Trump’s ongoing trade policies. Trading across the region was cautious. Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 dipped 0.3% to close at 34,174.38, while Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 was flat, edging up less than 0.1% to 7,820.20. South Korea’s Kospi rose 0.2% to 2,493.19, and China’s Shanghai Composite gained 0.3% to 3,301.59. Meanwhile, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index slipped marginally, down less than 0.1% to 21,387.51.
ITM Power this morning announced two positive changes to its FY25 guidance: Revenue is now expected to be between £25.5m and £26.5m, a 30% increase compared to the midpoint of the previously announced range of £18m to £22m. This increase is due to additional contractual obligations having been fulfilled and associated revenue now recognised. In addition, ITM has been net cash generative in the second half of FY25, and we now expect cash at the end of the financial year to be between £204m and £205m, an increase compared to our half-year cash balance, which stood at £203m. The original cash guidance, issued in August 2024, was between £160m and £175m and in January 2025, the guidance was increased to between £185m and £195m. The adjusted EBITDA loss guidance of £32m to £36m remains unchanged.
