Markets Overview:


The UK 100 is called to open +13 points at at 10,761.
The UK 100 looks set to open slightly higher this morning, this comes as the UK budget defecit unexpectedly widened in July as spending outpaced receipts.

In the US, comparable sales, excluding fuel, rose 2.6%, below 3.8% market consensus, and slower than 4.6% reported in the same quarter a year ago.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 1.3% on Thursday, the S&P 500 shed 0.9% and the Nasdaq Composite fell 1.0%.

In Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 was down 0.5% on Friday. In China, the Shanghai Composite was down 0.1%, though the Hang Seng Index in Hong Kong was up 0.8%. Sydney’s S&P/ASX 200 was down 0.3%.
