Markets Overview:

The UK 100 is called to open -75 today at 7888. A lower open is expected this morning for the UK,  one sector in focus today will be mining stocks  today as  worries about China’s economy weighed on risk sentiment and commodity prices, and sent stock prices tumbling overnight, Beijing is clamping down on major emitters and has cut output caps for steel makers. this lead to a tough session in Asia this morning, the Hang Seng in Hong Kong dropped 3.9%, while in Australia the S&P/ASX 200 fell by 2.2%. Stocks also dipped in Singapore and Indonesia. Markets were closed in mainland China, South Korea, Japan and Malaysia.  This follows on from a day which saw markets trade lower on Friday on Wall Street, The Dow Jones fell 0.5% to close at 34,584.88, and the Nasdaq fell 0.9% to end out the week at 15,043.97.  The S&P completed the all red session, losing 0.9% to settle at 4,432.99, for its second straight weekly loss.

Energy Sector: Boris Johnson says “we’ll have to do everything we can” to prevent energy companies going under as wholesale gas prices surge in the UK.
Prudential plans to raise up to around $2.89bn on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange as they are planning to offer up to 5% of its issued share capital (around 130.8m shares) at around $22.09.
