Markets Overview:

 

The UK 100 called to open +12 points this morning at 8,772. The UK 100 looks set to open higher this morning, this comes after the UK’s blue-chip index slipped late in the session yesterday having floated around the breakeven point through the session.

British house prices unexpectedly fell by 0.8% in June, according to data from mortgage lender Nationwide on Tuesday that added to signs of a slowdown in the property sector after the end of a tax break on house sales.

Stocks rose on Monday Stateside as traders closed out a stunning month with even more record highs. The S&P gained 0.52% and posted another record close, ending at 6,204.95. The Nasdaq advanced 0.47% and also reached fresh all-time highs, closing at 20,369.73. The Dow Jones climbed 275.50 points, or 0.63%, settling at 44,094.77.

Sainsbury’s today reiterated full-year profit guidance after reporting like-for-like sales growth of 4.7% for the first quarter to 21 June.  The supermarket chain and Argos owner said it expects to continue to grow grocery volumes ahead of the market.  It remains on track to deliver retail underlying operating profit of around £1 billion and free cash flow of more than £500 million.  Chief executive Simon Roberts highlighted the group’s highest market share in almost a decade.
