Markets Overview:

The UK 100 is called to open -14 points this morning at 7371.  The UK 100 looks set to open slightly lower this morning after China reported its first death from Covid in six months, leading to concerns that the Chinese government could make a U-turn on its decision of easing the strict Covid zero rules.  The Hang Seng fell more than 2% today, after a more than 26% rebound in the first two weeks of November, while the CSI index slid 1.50%.  This comes after a positive end to the week on Wall Street, The Dow Jones rose 199.37 points, or 0.59%, to 33,745.69, while the S&P climbed 0.48% to 3,965.34. The Nasdaq finished just 0.01% above the flat line at 11,146.06.

Company News:

Compass Group report a FY pretax profit of £1.47bn (2021: £464m) as they launch a new £250m share buyback programme to be completed by H1 2023. They expect their FY23 underlying operating profit to be above 20% at a constant currency basis.

 

 

Diploma report a FY22 pretax profit of £129.5m (2021: £96.6m). They have increased their FY22 total dividend by 26% to 42.6p. In FY23 they expect mid-single digit organic revenue growth, weighted to H1. They state that FY23 has started well, consistent with guidance.

 

 

Virgin Money UK starts a £50m share buyback extension after they report a FY underlying pretax profit down 1% YoY.
