The UK 100 is set for a moderately higher start on today, ahead of a widely expected interest rate cut from the Bank of England later.

Stocks declined on Wednesday as investors continued to rotate out of key artificial intelligence names, sparked by a report that Oracle’s primary investor pulled out of one of its data centre projects.  The S&P fell 1.16% to 6,721.43, while the Nasdaq lost 1.81% to end the session at 22,693.32. The Dow Jones slipped 228.29 points, or 0.47%, to settle at 47,885.97.

Oracle dropped 5.4% after the Financial Times reported that Blue Owl Capital’s plans to finance the cloud infrastructure company’s $10 billion Michigan data centre fell through, with people familiar with the matter pointing to concerns about Oracle’s debt and spending levels. Oracle has since disputed the report and said the project is moving forward.

Asian markets are mixed this morning, with Japan’s Nikkei down 1%, the Hang Seng down 0.2%, but mainland Chinese and Indian stocks up slightly.
