Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open +28 points at 7,438.  The UK 100 is expected to open higher on Friday ahead of retail figures.  In New York on Wall Street saw indices close broadly unchanged with the Dow Jones down 0.1%, the S&P up 0.1% and the Nasdaq up 0.1%.  UK retail sales data this morning showed an unexpected fall in October, adding to the impression that a string of interest rate hikes designed to beat down inflation is beginning to stymie economic activity, giving hope that further rate rises could have a negative impact on the economy.
