Markets Overview:

 

The UK 100 is called to open +36 points this morning at 7080.  The UK 100 looks set to have a welcome reprieve this morning after yesterdays mass global sell off, which saw the UK’s blue-chip index have its biggest one day fall for three months.  It was a similar story stateside yesterday, US markets took a battering yesterday, with the Dow Jones plunging 741 points (2.4%) to 29,927 and the S&P 500 plummeting 123 points (3.3%) to 3,667.  It was a mixed session in Asia this morning.  The Nikkei 225 was off 387 points (1.5%) at 26,044 in Tokyo.  The Hang Seng index in Hong Kong was in recovery mode, rising 231 points (1.1%) at 21,076.

AJ Bell have announced that Michael Summersgill will succeed co-founder Andy Bell as the investment platform’s CEO.

 

 

Glencore sees their marketing segment’s HY adjusted EBIT to exceed $3.2bn. They expect more normal market conditions to prevail in H2.

 

 

Tesco have maintained their FY profit guidance despite reporting a 1.5% fall in underlying UK sales in its latest quarter compared to the same period last year when they were boosted by a third pandemic lockdown. Their guidance ranges for profit and cash remained unchanged, though it cautioned the market environment remains “incredibly challenging”.
