Markets Overview:

The UK 100 is called to open +26 today at 7042.  The UK looks set for the slightest of gains this morning after a positive session stateside yesterday which saw The Dow Jones rise by 236 point or 0.68%, to finish the day at 34,814 whilst the S&P was stronger still, rising 0.85% to 4,480.  The Nasdaq also added 0.8% as it climbed 123 points to a close of 15,161.  The small-cap centric Russell 2,000 was the strongest performing of the major benchmarks, stepping up 1.1% to 2,234.  It was however a tougher session this morning in Asia, Japan’s Nikkei fell 182 points or 0.6% to trade at 30,321.  Hong Kong’s Hang Seng fell further, losing 461 points or 1.8% to close around 24,571. Elsewhere, the Shanghai Composite dipped 0.6% to 3,630.  Elsewhere oil prices continue to soar, Brent crude up 2.7% per barrel, trading above $75.

Ashtead Group expects their FY results to be ahead of previous expectations as they posted a Q1 pretax profit of $415.8m (2020: $240.6m profit).
BT: DAZN is “possibly” interested in BT Sport, the sports television unit of BT that has content including the Premier League.
Galliford Try swings to a H1 pretax profit of £11.4m (2020: £59.7m loss) as they declare a dividend of 4.7p per share for FY.
Kier Group reports a FY pretax profit of £5.6m as current trading is in line with expectations as outlook for the year is unchanged.
Ryanair raises their 5-year traffic growth forecast to 50% (from 33%) as they expect to take delivery of 210 Boeing 737 aircraft over the next 5 years.
