The UK 100 called to open +23 points this morning at 8,656. The UK 100 looks set to open higher this morning ahead of Monday’s talks with the EU on a potential defence deal.
The S&P climbed for a fourth session, adding to this week’s rally after the U.S. and China agreed to temporarily slash tariff rates. Treasury yields also fell, providing a tailwind to stocks. The broad market index rose 0.41% to end at 5,916.93, while the Dow Jones added 271.69 points, or 0.65%, and closed at 42,322.75. The Nasdaq underperformed, slipping 0.18% and settling at 19,112.32.
In Asia on Friday, the Nikkei 225 index in Tokyo fell 0.1%. In China, the Shanghai Composite was 0.4% lower, while the Hang Seng index in Hong Kong faded 0.5%. The S&P/ASX 200 in Sydney closed up 0.5%.
Land Securities reported strong operational results for the year ending March 31, 2025, with a 5.0% increase in like-for-like net rental income, boosting earnings and portfolio valuation. The company plans to invest £1bn in major retail and establish a £2bn residential platform by 2030, funded by rotating £3bn of capital from offices and non-core assets. This strategy aims to ensure sustainable income and EPS growth, with a projected 20% EPRA EPS growth potential by FY30. Financial highlights include a profit before tax of £393m and a 6.4% return on equity, alongside operational achievements such as increased occupancy and reduced overhead costs.
