The UK 100 called to open +10 points this morning at 8,859. The UK 100 looks set to open higher this morning as investors are seeming to push conflict in the Middle East to one side, this follows a positive trading session in Asia this morning.
Markets in Asia seem to have shrugged off much of the worry this morning, with the Nikkei up over 1% in Tokyo and India’s Sensex up 0.7%, with smaller gains in China.
On Friday the Dow Jones fell 769.83 points, or 1.79%, ending at 42,197.79. The S&P dropped 1.13% to close at 5,976.97, while the Nasdaq lost 1.30% and settled at 19,406.83. Nvidia and other stocks that have led the market’s comeback from the April lows dropped as investors shed risk. Oil and defence stocks were higher. Exxon added 2%, while Lockheed Martin and RTX each jumped more than 3%.
BT chief eyes deeper job cuts as AI becomes more powerful. Kirkby also says ‘the time to reconsider’ BT Openreach spin off would be after it had finished upgrading its network to full fibre.
