Markets Overview:


The UK 100 is called to open -33 points at at 10,664.  
Stocks in London are set to open lower on Tuesday, after it was somewhat of an outlier on Monday, when it registered a rise despite artificial intelligence worries hanging over stocks. But European peers are to rise, with the CAC 40 and DAX 40 each called 0.1% higher.

In the US on Monday, Wall Street ended lower, dragged down by AI worries, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.3%, the S&P 500 down 0.5% and the Nasdaq Composite down 0.6%.

In Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 was down 0.2%. In China, the Shanghai Composite traded 0.3% lower, while the Hang Seng Index in Hong Kong fell 0.7%. The S&P/ASX 200 lost 1.0%.  China’s unemployment rate rose in August, with retail sales slowing as industrial production accelerated, official data showed Tuesday.

GSK today announced it has entered an agreement to acquire a potential best-in-class trispecific T cell-engager (TCE) from Chimagen Biosciences (Chimagen), a privately held biotechnology company. GSK plans to develop and commercialise the asset for multiple myeloma, with the programme expected to enter phase I trials in 2027.

 

Kier Group revealed earnings for its full year that Increases, from the same period last year. The company’s earnings totalled £61.7 million, or £0.135 per share. This compares with £56.4 million, or £0.121 per share, last year.  Excluding items, Kier Group reported adjusted earnings of £102.3 million or £0.224 per share for the period.  The company’s revenue for the period rose 6.7% to £4.352 billion from £4.077 billion last year.
