Markets Overview:

The UK 100 is called to open -7 today at 7027.  Calls for the UK bluechip index to open marginally lower come ahead of UK inflation data.  This follows a tougher session in Asia this morning, where stocks were lower on after China’s retail sales grew at a much slower pace than expected in August.  The retail sales print for August came in at 2.5%, against a 7% growth forecast by analysts polled by Reuters.  China’s Shanghai Composite slipped 0.22% and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index fell 1.37%, in Japan, the Nikkei dropped 0.54%.  Yesterday on Wall Street, it was equally as tougher session, the Dow fell 292.06 points, or 0.8%, to  end the session at 34,577.57. The S&P 500 lost 0.6% to finish at 4,443.05 and the Nasdaq slipped 0.5% to 15,037.76.

Company News:

 

Fevertree reported a 17% increase in pretax profit to £25.3m YoY as they declared an interim dividend of 5.52p (+2%). They have maintained increased revenue guidance of £295-304m for 2021 as they expect gross margins of 43% and EBITDA margin of 20%.
Redrow reports that their FY pretax profit has increased to £314m (2020: £140m) as they declare a final dividend of 18.5p per share.
Restaurant Group reports a pretax loss of £39.5m as they declare no dividend. They state that concessions outperformed the market by 21% in H1 and that “substantial liquidity” offers organic growth opportunities.
 
Tullow Oil swings to a H1 profit of $93m (2020: $1.33bn loss) as they raised the lower end of its 2021 production target. Their CFO Les Wood is to leave the company at the end of March 2022.
