Markets Overview:

 

UK 100 is called to open +30 points this morning at 7175.  The UK blue chip index was called to open today at its highest levels post pandemic, this comes despite yesterdays announcement that restrictions would not be lifted fully as had been first hoped on June 21st, instead, July 19th is now the key date is diaries.  Stateside yesterday saw record high closes on both the Nasdaq and the S&P 500.  It was a more mixed picture in Asia this morning The Shanghai Composite in China fell 0.90% and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index dipped 0.93%, whereas in Japan, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.95% while South Korea’s Kospi rose 0.14%.

AstraZeneca are “encouraged” by trial of treatment preventing symptomatic COVID-19.

 

Boohoo reported a 32% rise in sales in its latest quarter despite a tough year-on-year comparative, benefitting from a pick-up in demand as lockdown restrictions eased. They maintained guidance for FY 21-22 revenue growth of around 25%, with an overall core earnings margin of 9.5-10%.

 

Bellway expects demand for new homes to remain robust for the rest of the fiscal year, as the sector benefits from government support measures and low lending rates. They expect to complete the sale of around 10,000 homes in the financial year ending 31st July, compared with 7,522 units a year earlier.
