Markets Overview:


The UK 100 is called to open -44 points at at 10,485.  
London stocks are expected to open lower on Wednesday as renewed US military action against Iran pushed oil prices higher, while investors assessed mixed economic data from China.

UK 100 futures point to a decline of around 40 points, reversing Tuesday’s 31-point gain, when the index closed at 10,529.39.

Wall Street ended higher overnight, with the S&P 500 up 0.4% and the Nasdaq Composite gaining 0.9%.

Asian markets were mixed. Japan’s Nikkei rose 1.2% and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng gained 1.6%, while the Shanghai Composite was marginally lower.

Barratt Redrow pledged to return £400 million to shareholders in the 2027 financial year after deciding its shares represent better value than paying larger cash dividends, as the housebuilder reported annual profits in line with expectations despite a mixed housing market.

 

Rio Tinto reported better-than-expected second-quarter iron ore sales on Wednesday, supported by strong system performance, putting it on track to meet its annual forecast.
