Markets Overview:

The UK 100 is called to open -17 points today at 7113.  Calls for a slightly lower open today come as traders will most likely look to tonight’s Fed minutes to try to gain some insight into the FOMC’s thinking from the nature of its plans going forward.  Trading on Wall Street yesterday saw The Dow Jones shed 117.72 points, or 0.3%, to close at 34,378.34. The S&P 500 ticked down 0.2% to 4,350.65 and the Nasdaq closed 0.1% lower at 14,465.92.  Shares in Asia were mixed on Wednesday as trading in Hong Kong was cancelled because of severe weather due to Typhoon Kompasu.  The Shanghai Composite gained 0.25% after China’s trade surplus with the U.S. rose to a monthly record of $42 billion in September.  In Japan, the Nikkei fell 0.20%.
