Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open -4 points at 7744. The UK 100 is expected to open little changed on Monday as the fall out from the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank rumbles on and with the Budget to come on Wednesday.  In the US The Dow closed Friday down 345 points or 1.1%, to end the session at 31,910, the Nasdaq lost 199 points or 1.8%, to end the week at 11,139 and the S&P fell 57 points or 1.5%, to end at 3,862. The small-cap Russell 200 index declined 58 points or 3.2%, to trade at 1,769.  HSBC this morning have confirmed the acquisition of Silicon Valley Bank UK for £1.

Direct Line Insurance Group swings to a FY pretax loss of £45.1m, from £446m profit YoY as they say that FY conditions are challenging for Motor and Home insurance. They confirm no final dividend for 2022, as previously announced. They state that 2023 earnings are to be hit by higher than expected Motor insurance claims inflation.




HSBC confirms they will acquire Silicon Valley Bank UK ltd for £1.




Moonpig confirms it has no material exposure to Silicon Valley Bank UK.




Phoenix Group reports a 2022 pretax loss of £2.84bn, widened from £430m YoY.
