The UK 100 called to open -44 points this morning at 8,840. The UK 100 looks set to fall sharply on the open today, this comes as oil prices are up more than 7% and global markets look set to open sharply lower after Israel attacked nuclear facilities in Iran. Fears of supply disruption in the Middle East sent Brent Crude as high as $78 a barrel before settling near $74.32, the highest level since early April. Gold rose 1% to $3423 an ounce. The escalation of geopolitical tensions means Wall Street futures are currently pointing to a fall of about 1.5% for leading US benchmarks.
Stateside yesterday saw the S&P end Thursday higher as a rally in Oracle lifted investors’ hopes and boosted the big tech sector. The benchmark climbed 0.38% and closed at 6,045.26. The broad market S&P now sits less than 2% off its record. The Nasdaq gained 0.24% and ended the day at 19,662.48. The Dow Jones added 101.85 points, or 0.24%, settling at 42,967.62.
Primary Health Properties PLC has lowered its acceptance condition threshold for its offer to acquire Assura plc to match the competing bid from Sana Bidco Limited, according to a statement released Friday. PHP reduced the acceptance threshold to more than 50 percent of Assura’s voting rights, aligning with Bidco’s offer terms. The company also announced it would not reduce its offer value if Assura declares a special dividend of up to 0.84 pence per share, representing an acceleration of Assura’s expected October 2025 dividend.
