Markets Overview:

The UK 100 is called to open -60 points today at 7078. Calls for a weaker open come today as surging energy prices intensify inflation worries, added to the potential of looming central bank action may sway investor sentiment.  Overnight, on Wall Street stocks finished on a low, with all three major indices ending the session in the red, the Dow Jones dropped 0.7%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq by 0.6%.  The picture was equally troubled in Asia this morning, Japan’s Nikkei stock index slid 1.03%.  China’s blue-chip index was 0.75% lower, while the Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index was down 1.35%.

Company News:

De La Rue reports positive H1 trading in their currency & authentication divisions.
EasyJet reports positive operating cash flow and forward booking momentum as their Q4 headline losses decreased by more than half YoY. They now expect FY headline pretax loss to be between £1.14-1.18bn.
Entain states that all major markets except Germany delivered “strong performance” in Q3 as their EBITDA seen in line with prior guidance of £850-900m.
OnTheMarket expects FY adjusted operating profit to be substantially ahead of expectations.
Stagecoach says there is no certainty of merger with National Express.
Vistry Group CEO Greg Fitzgerald is willing to continue serving beyond the end of 2022.
