Markets Overview:

The UK 100 is called to open -6 points today at 7089.  A modestly lower start is expected to start the weeks trading off today, this comes after another buoyant day of trading on Friday that saw the UK bluechip index break through 7100 again before settling narrowly below that level.  In Asia this morning stocks were mostly higher on Monday with Aviation-related stocks in Singapore surging after the Southeast Asian country launched vaccinated travel lanes (VTL) with Canada, Denmark, France, Italy, Netherlands, Spain and the U.K.  China’s Shanghai Composite gained 0.41% while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index surged 2.25%.  In Japan, the Nikkei 225 jumped 1.55% but South Korea’s Kospi dipped 0.11%.  Reporting season kicks into full swing Stateside this week, Among those reporting will be a host of major banks including JPMorgan, Bank of America, Morgan Stanley, Citigroup and Goldman.

Asos reports 36% rise in full year profit. It saw exceptional demand in its home British market but did say supple chain costs could weigh on its 2022 outcome. Adjusted pre-tax profit was £193.6m. Expected outcome for current year will be in range of £110-140m.
AstraZeneca said its antibody cocktail, which is the first protective shot other than vaccines against COVID-19, met its main goals in late-stage trials, helping to reduce severe COVID or death.
