Markets Overview:

 

UK 100 called to open +50 points this morning at 6100.  Calls fro a positive open, come in spite of UK unemployment continuing to rise last month, in the latest UK ILO Unemployment numbers.  During the US Session yesterday the Dow Jones added 357.96 points to close at 27,791.44, a gain of 1.3%. Boeing and Dow Inc. were among the best-performing stocks rising more than 5% each.  The S&P 500 climbed 0.27% to finish at 3,360.47, this was S&P 500′s seventh straight day of gains. Leaving the S&P 500 less than 1% away from a record highs.  The Nasdaq however, did not fair so well, and dropped nearly 0.4% to 10,968.36 as traders trimmed positions in Big Tech stocks.

 

Company News:

 

Bellway has constructed fewer homes in 2020 due to coronavirus lockdown bringing property sales to a halt. However, temporary stamp duty holiday and the gradual reopening of sites has led to a pick-up in demand. They have a strong forward order book comprimising of 6,588 homes with a value of £1,760.2m.

 

Domino’s Pizza Group posted a 2.7% dip in H1 2020 operating profits, hurt by costs for implementing social distancing measures at its restaurants due to coronavirus outbreak. They reported EBIT of £51.4m (2019: £52.8m) where sales in UK and Ireland system rose 5.5%.

 

Galliford Try has been awarded a £105m contract to build a major new build-to-rent residential scheme in Leeds of 665 homes.

 

International Hotels Group have sais they are seeing some “very early” signs of recovery in demand as coronavirus restrictions ease in major markets, with July room revenue expected to be down 58%. They reported a 52% plunge in average room revenue for H1 2020, with an operating loss of $233m (2019: $442m profit).

 

Plus 500 reported an expected surge in H1 2020 core profit on the back of extreme volatility in financial markets triggered by the coronavirus crisis. They expect the market volatility to normalise in H2. They also announced a $67.3m share buyback programme.
