The UK 100 is called to open +121 points at 10,370. The UK 100 looks set to bounce this morning, with Asian stocks setting the course as energy prices slide back to where they were a week ago.
Asian markets rebounded after the sharp reversal in oil prices reduced immediate inflation concerns. MSCI Asia Pacific ex-Japan rose 2.8%, snapping a two-day losing streak. Japan’s Nikkei 225 climbed 2.7%, while South Korea’s Kospi surged as much as 6.6%, triggering a brief trading curb after futures rallied more than 5%. Mainland Chinese markets also advanced, with the CSI 300 up 1.1% and the Shanghai Composite rising 0.4%. China’s trade data reinforced the region’s economic resilience. Exports rose 21.8% year-on-year in January–February, while imports increased 19.8%, pushing the trade surplus to $213.6 billion.
Yesterday saw the S&P made a comeback from earlier losses on Monday after President Donald Trump said the war against Iran could be reaching its end. The broad market index rose 0.83% to close at 6,795.99, while the Dow Jones added 239.25 points, or 0.5%, and ended at 47,740.80. The blue-chip index is coming off its biggest weekly slide in nearly a year. The Nasdaq jumped 1.38% and settled at 22,695.95. Those moves mark an impressive turnaround from the losses seen earlier in the day. The Dow was down nearly 900 points at its session low, and the S&P and Nasdaq fell as much as 1.5% each. On Monday, Trump told a CBS News reporter, who shared the comments in a post on X, that “the war is very complete, pretty much.”
Persimmon has reported a 13% increase in profit for last year and an accelerated sales rate at the start of the new year despite uncertainty over the impact of the Iran conflict on customer sentiment. The dividend was held at 60p per share and there was no share buyback.
