Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open +7 points at 8,686. The UK 100 looks set to start marginally on the front foot today, this comes after Fridays US jobs data showed that although unemployment was higher than expected, wage growth was slower than expected.

Stateside Friday saw the S&P regain some ground on Friday, but the index still posted its worst week in several months as the uncertainty of trade policy actions unnerved investors.  The broad index rose 0.55% to 5,770.20, while the Nasdaq gained 0.7% to 18,196.22. The Dow Jones added 222.64 points, or 0.52%, to end at 42,801.72.  Friday saw volatile trading, with the Dow falling more than 400 points at session lows before an afternoon rally. The S&P and Nasdaq both fell more than 1% at their worst points in the trading day.

Asian stocks are mixed this morning, with Japan’s Nikkei and India’s Sensex slightly higher but the Hang Seng down 1.7% in Hong Kong.

Company News:

BHP Group has committed to investing up to A$40-million for the exploration of potential Tier 1 copper/silver deposits in Botswana, in partnership with Australia-listed Cobre.

Deliveroo has announced it is selling up and moving out of Hong Kong after nine years, suggesting it was not a “disciplined” use of its capital.  After nine years of operating in the special administrative region of China, the business represented 5% of the group’s gross transaction value but remained lossmaking on an EBITDA level.

Kantar’s owners are exploring the sale of its Worldpanel division for 5 billion pounds (US$6.5 billion) or more, Sky News reported on Sunday, while in a separate report the Financial Times said Kantar is set to be broken up and sold.  Kantar’s owners Bain Capital and advertising group WPP declined to comment on the reports, while Kantar did not immediately respond to requests for comment.  The Sky report said the move by Bain and WPP to sell Worldpanel – which runs consumer panels globally – is yet to be finalised. Any such deal would leave Kantar as a standalone brand-strategy consultancy, it said.
