Markets Overview:

 

UK 100 is called to open +13 points this morning at 7094.A positive open is expected this morning ahead of inflation data (CPI) Stateside this afternoon, and a Europe Central Bank meeting. On Wall Street Wednesday, markets took a step back, the Dow Jones closed Wednesday 152 points or 0.44% lower at 34,447. The S&P fell by 0.18% to finish at 4,219 whilst the Nasdaq was the best performing benchmark, closing at 13,911. It was a brighter picture in Asia today, Japan’s Nikkei added 91 points or 0.32% to trade at 28,952 whilst Hong Kong’s Hang Seng gained 74 points or 0.26% to end the session at 28,817. The Shanghai Composite added 0.69% to 3,616.

Company News:

Auto Trader reports that their FY21 pretax profits are down 37% YoY to £157.4m as they have started the new financial year in a strong position. They state that COVID is currently having little impact on performance.

 

Capita wins a £57.6m customer management contract renewal with Tesco mobile.

 

Card Factory reports a FY pretax loss of £16.4m (2020: £65.2m profit after a successful reopening post-lockdown as sales have exceeded previous reopenings.

 

DFS reports that they expect their FY21 underlying pretax profit to be around £105m as H2 to date order intake is up 14% vs same period in FY19. They expect FY22 pretax profit to be between £66-96m.

 

Entain expects 3m people to bet on the delayed 2020 UEFA European Championships.
