Index Focus – 2 Sep - 2 September 2014

Global markets have flown out of the blocks this morning, trading higher across the board. Yesterday’s trading session saw equity markets finish relatively flat after trading with lower volumes due to the Labor Day holiday in the states. Tension continues to rise across the globe after Ukraine’s Defence Minister Valeriy Heletey made comments that a great war had arrived at their doorstep – the likes of which Europe has not seen since World War Two. However, Russian President Vladimir Putin yesterday called for negotiations over greater autonomy for the war-torn regions, as markets shrugged off concerns.

UK’s UK 100  is trading back at 2 month highs this morning after a relatively flat day yesterday. Resistance around 6835 was broken in early trading signalling a possible push back up towards early July highs of 6876.

Germany’s DAX is trading higher this morning as it approaches a 2 month falling trend line that could act as a level of resistance. A break of this level could see a push towards 9600 before a move back up to 9700. Support to the downside could still found at the 4 week rising trend line.

The US Dow Jones could be set for yet another all-time high today, after being closed yesterday for Labor Day, the futures are pointing to a strong open only 25 points away from those all-time highs that we saw last week. Resistance may be felt at last weeks highs, which if broken could signal a push into the unseen realms of 17200’s. Support on the down side may be held at the 1 month rising trend line.
