Dow Jones – 25 Feb

Lloyds Banking Group shares continue to climb, now up 10% at 68p following results released earlier in the morning. Looking past a strong 4% dividend yield, Accendo analyst Mike van Dulken says the positivity surrounding the release is misplaced. Mr. van Dulken highlights a 58% drop in net profits. Even if this fall was expected following the removal of TSB, Mr. van Dulken says missold insurance payouts have become too regular a feature, with the extra GBP2.1 billion of provisions taking the total to GBP4 billion. Mr. van Dulken adds that a low interest rate environment and taxes on profits are unlikely to help the bank any time soon

Dow Jones – 23 Feb

Shares in UK 100 -newcomer Provident Financial climb 3.4% to 3309p with the release of the financial service company’s first results as a blue-chip. Accendo research head Mike van Dulken highlights a 22% rise in pre-tax profits and management’s comments that 2016 has also seen a ‘good start’. A correspondent 23% rise in dividend may also see a share price increase, Mr. van Dulken says, adding that Provident’s short-term is looking bright. However, he says, a policy of providing loans to customers with poor credit histories raises questions about the long-term.
