Markets Overview:


The UK 100 is called to open -16 points at at 10,654.  
Stocks in London are to open lower on Thursday, ahead of a European Central Bank decision, as a US Treasury announcement on bond buybacks failed to inspire.

In New York, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.8%, while the S&P 500 fell 0.5%. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite declined 0.6%.

In Tokyo on Thursday, the Nikkei 225 was down 0.4%. In China, the Shanghai Composite was 0.5% lower, while the Hang Seng Index shed 1.3%. The S&P/ASX 200 in Sydney was down 1.2%.

A barrel of Brent fell to $100.62 on Thursday morning from $101.07 at the time of the London equities close on Wednesday. Gold rose to $4,428.81 an ounce from $4,420.33.

Company News:

Associated British Foods has released its fourth-quarter trading update for the 2026 financial year. The group reported resilient trading overall, with adjusted earnings per share expected to exceed previous expectations, while group adjusted operating profit remains broadly in line with prior guidance. Work on the highly anticipated demerger of its Retail business (Primark) from its core Food divisions is progressing well and is officially scheduled for completion in December 2027.
