The UK 100 is called to open -42 points at at 10,780. Stocks in London are set to tread water on Tuesday, after listless trade on Monday, as markets await fresh catalysts in the form of Thursday’s European Central Bank decision and Friday’s US inflation reading.
Tuesday also sees traders in New York return to desks, after the Labor Day holiday on Monday.
In Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 was down 0.2%. In China, the Shanghai Composite was up 0.3%, while the Hang Seng Index in Hong Kong was down 0.4%. In Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 was down 1.0%.
China’s trade surplus increased in August, official data showed Tuesday.
Dunelm launched a new three-year growth plan on Tuesday and warned that unusually hot weather had knocked trading at the start of its new financial year. Dunelm’s plans include removing about £100 million ($135.45 million)of costs from its business and investing in initiatives to boost sales. The firm said that it has cut around 8% of roles across its salaried staff in support and distribution teams since the start of the new financial year. The specialist retailer of homeware and furniture has been navigating a challenging consumer environment, with shoppers remaining price-conscious amid persistent cost-of-living pressures.
