Markets Overview:

The UK 100 is called to open -23 points at at 10,845.
The UK 100 is expected to open lower on Thursday, with futures pointing to a decline of around 20-25 points, or 0.2%, to 10,845, as investors digest firmer US inflation data and look ahead to Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh’s Jackson Hole speech.

The latest US personal consumption expenditures data showed headline inflation holding at 3.7% year-on-year in July, slightly above expectations, while core PCE remained at 3.3%.

Nvidia provided a more positive counterweight after issuing an upbeat outlook for artificial intelligence demand. The chipmaker said it expects revenue growth of 70% in financial 2028, well ahead of current analyst forecasts of around 45%, although higher memory costs are expected to pressure margins.  Nvidia shares rose 4.7% in after-hours trading, helping lift sentiment towards semiconductor stocks in Asia.

Asian markets were mixed. China’s Shanghai Composite gained 0.6%, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng fell 0.6%, Sydney’s S&P/ASX 200 dropped 1.0% and Japan’s Nikkei 225 was little changed.
