Markets Overview:

The UK 100 is called to open +32 points at at 10,505.
The UK 100 is expected to open higher on the last day of a hectic trading week, and before earnings season kicks off next week.   Futures for London’s blue-chip index are pointing to a gain of 32 points, after yesterday saw a mid-morning decline of over 90 points trimmed to just under 17 by the close at 10,472.45.

Stocks rose on Thursday, bolstered by a jump in semiconductors and a fall in oil prices, as equity markets tried to recover in spite of renewed U.S.-Iran tensions.  The Nasdaq gained 1.30% to 26,206.89, while the S&P rose 0.81% to 7,543.64. The Dow Jones added 139.02 points, or 0.27%, to 52,487.41.

The VanEck Semiconductor ETF (SMH) climbed 2.5%, led by a 4.5% gain in Micron Technology’s stock. Sandisk’s stock also popped 7.6%.

Asian markets are mostly higher this morning, with Japan’s Nikkei and Korea’s Kospi leading the way, up 1.35% and 3.4% respectively, while the Shanghai Composite is slightly in the red.
