Markets Overview:

The UK 100 is called to open -8 points at at 10,488.
The UK 100 looks set to open marginally lower this morning, this follows a tricky day for the UK’s blue-chip index on Monday which saw the index give back 110 points.

It has been reported on Bloomberg this morning that Iran state media said it has received indications the U.S. may move to ease the Hormuz blockade, though no timing or formal confirmation has been provided. Oil softened immediately on the headline, underlining how sensitive markets remain to any supply normalisation signal (Bloomberg Live TV).  Last night Donald Trump announced that the US has extended the Iran ceasefire indefinitely.

U.S. equities closed lower in a choppy session as investors reduced risk into the ceasefire deadline. The Dow fell 0.59% to 49,149.60, the S&P 500 lost 0.63% to 7,064.02 and the Nasdaq fell 0.59% to 24,259.96.  Energy was the only positive S&P sector (+1.3%), while rate-sensitive real estate and utilities lagged. Apple fell 2.5% after its management transition announcement, while airlines sold off on fuel-cost pressure.

Asia was mixed overnight. Japan’s Nikkei rose 0.29% to another record high, helped by stronger trade data. Korea and Taiwan remained supported by AI/chip leadership, while Hong Kong underperformed.
