Markets Overview:

The UK 100 is called to open +8 points at 9560.
The UK 100 is expected to recoup a small portion of yesterday’s losses on Wednesday, as new figures were published showing UK inflation eased back last month. Consumer price inflation in October was up 3.6% versus a year ago, down from 3.8% the month before, with a 0.4% month-on-month increase. The core consumer price index, which excludes fuel and food prices, rose 3.4% on an annual basis, down from 3.5%, while services CPI also eased to 4.5% from 4.7%.

Stocks fell again on Tuesday as technology shares continued to retreat on concerns about valuations of artificial intelligence-related stocks and as bitcoin dropped briefly below $90,000, a sign of reduced risk-taking by investors.  The Dow Jones shed 498.50 points, or 1.07%, to settle at 46,091.74. The S& lost 0.83% to end the day at 6,617.32. It was the broad-based index’s fourth straight losing session, making for its longest slide since August. The Nasdaq decreased 1.21% to finish at 22,432.85. At their lows of the session, the blue-chip Dow was lower by nearly 700 points, or 1.5%, while the S&P 500 and tech-heavy Nasdaq had fallen 1.5% and 2.1%, respectively.

Asian markets mostly fell overnight, tracking an overnight tech sell-off on Wall Street, with concerns over valuations for artificial intelligence companies being a primary cause. In specific markets, Japan’s Nikkei 225 ended 0.14% lower, South Korea’s Kospi dropped 0.64%, and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng fell 0.35%. In contrast, China’s mainland CSI 300 index saw a slight gain.

Company News & Broker Comments:

Company News:

Jet2 on Wednesday said it would report annual results in line with expectations after posting a rise in interim operating profit, helped by robust demand for its flight-only offerings.  The company, which said that the trend of bookings being made closer to departure dates was continuing, also announced a 100 million pounds ($131.4 million) share buyback.

Lloyds Banking Group has announced the acquisition of Curve, a London-based fintech that provides an all-in-one digital wallet, for an undisclosed price.  Curve’s platform allows users to integrate various bank cards, loyalty cards and alternative payment methods into one secure app, while also offering features such as money-saving tools and loyalty rewards.  Lloyds said the deal is not expected to materially impact its financials or full-year guidance for 2025 or 2026.

Sage Group reported strong financial results for the year ending September 2025, with a 10% increase in underlying total revenue to £2,513m and a 17% rise in underlying operating profit to £600m. The company’s strategic focus on AI and cloud solutions, including the successful deployment of Sage Copilot and AI agents, has positioned it well for future growth.
