The UK 100 is called to open -11 points this morning at 9,480. The UK 100 looks set to open the week moderately lower, having closed last week at record highs, just short of the 9,500 level.
The S&P retreated from a record on Friday but held on to solid weekly gains despite a U.S. government shutdown dragging on for a third day. The broad market index closed little changed, ticking up just 0.01% at 6,715.79, while the Nasdaq declined 0.28% to settle at 22,780.51. The Dow Jones outperformed, trading higher by 238.56 points, or 0.51%, to finish at 46,758.28. The Russell 2000 also popped 0.72% to close at 2,476.18. All four benchmarks had hit all-time highs earlier in the session.
In Asia, The Nikkei 225 has surged by 5% after stocks in Japan were boosted by the ruling party’s appointment of pro-stimulus politician Sanae Takaichi as the country’s next prime minister.
Brent Crude today rose by more than 1% to $65.41 a barrel after OPEC+ announced a smaller-than-expected production increase of 137,000 barrels.
Aston Martin this morning said as a result of heightened challenges in global microenvironment, group now expects total volumes in FY25 to decline by mid-high single digit % Group delivered units in Q3 below previous guidance due to weaker than expected demand in North America.
Shawbrook announced its intention to pursue a main market listing. The move follows Friday’s confirmation of an IPO by tinned tuna business Princes Group and the start of trading for shares in Beauty Tech Group. Digital banking platform Shawbrook reported a loan book of £17 billion at the end of June, including small business and real estate lending. Shawbrook chief executive Marcelino Castrillo said: “We have achieved real scale, and our current markets are large and growing, supported by attractive tailwinds.
