Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open flat points this morning at 9,117. The index is expected to stabilize following its sharpest single-day drop since April during yesterday’s trading session. The decline was driven by weakness in global bond markets amid growing concerns over rising government debt levels.

U.S. stocks trimmed earlier losses during the Wall Street session yesterday. The Nasdaq Composite remained the weakest performer, closing down 0.8%, while the S&P 500 slipped 0.7% and the Dow Jones dipped 0.55%. Asian markets have turned lower across the board as they respond to the shift in sentiment. The Shanghai Composite led the declines with a 1.25% drop, followed by a 0.9% fall in the Nikkei.

Company News:

Swedish fintech company Klarna launched its New York IPO on Tuesday, aiming to raise up to $1.3 billion by offering over 34 million shares at $35-$37 each, potentially valuing the company at $15 billion, after filing its registration statement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Watches of Switzerland reported  that it is experiencing “consistently strong trading” and does not anticipate a significant impact from US tariffs during the first half of its financial year. The company stated that its performance aligns with the guidance provided alongside its annual results in July. Last month, shares faced renewed pressure following USA President Trump’s announcement of a 39% tariff on Swiss exports. Nevertheless, the company indicated that its brand partners increased their inventories in July, having observed a 45% year-on-year rise in Swiss watch exports.
