The UK 100 is called to open +16 points this morning at 7362. The UK 100 looks set to open higher this morning after Retail sales data showed volumes rose 0.6% in October, above expectations for an increase of 0.3%. In the US the Dow, S&P and Nasdaq all ended slightly lower in a subdued session as hawkish comments from a US Federal Reserve official and conflicting data as to the strength of the US economy saw investors pause for breath. At the close the Dow was down 6 points, to 33,547, the S&P fell 12 points, or 0.3%, to 3,947 and the Nasdaq dropped 39 points, or 0.35%, to 11,145, all three major indices bounced during the session, recovering early sharp losses.

International Distribution Services: Royal Mail postal workers will strike for six days in the run-up to the busy Christmas period in a dispute over pay and conditions.
Legal & General says their global PRT business continues to perform “strongly” and their UK annuity portfolio is “highly resilient” to market moves. Their expectations for FY22 operating profit and capital generation remain unchanged. They note the UK Chancellor’s autumn statement as a “positive step forward”.
