Markets Overview:

 

UK 100 called to open -7 points at 7148; This comes on the back of news that Chinese officials seem reluctant to agree to a broad trade deal pursued by the U.S. ahead of talks that begin Thursday. Vice Premier Liu He, who will lead the Chinese contingent, said his offer won’t include commitments on reforming Chinese industrial policy or government subsidies.  Britain’s prime minister Boris Johnson has asked France’s Macron to ‘push forward’ on Brexit.  Oil prices have held firm at $58.8 per barrel over the weekend, whilst gold has pulled back slightly to $1506.

 

In corporate news this morning:

 

De La Rue announce the appointment of Clive Vacher as CEO effective immediately.

 

HSBC is planning to cut up to 10,000 jobs as interim CEO Noel Quinn seeks to reduce costs across the banking group. 

 

Tesco are lining up John Kingsman to be the new chairman of its financial services arm.

Vodafone are testing innovative open access radio technology in Britain, in a move that could break the grip Huawei , Ericsson and Nokia hold on the telco equipment market.
