Yesterday was a day of records in the US as both the Dow Jones and S&P 500 registered new all-time highs. Global markets gained after strong durable goods data from the states as well as the news that Israel and Hamas accepted the terms of a cease-fire plan that aims to end a seven week long conflict in Gaza. There was also hope that tensions elsewhere are also easing after Russian President Vladimir Putin said that talks with his Ukrainian counterpart were positive.
UK’s UK 100 3 week uptrend continues, trading back up at late July levels after now recouping all the losses seen in the early part of August. We saw resistance yesterday at 3 week highs of 6829, a level that has failed to be broken so far this morning. With some seemingly positive news emanating from some of the conflict zones, a break above this level could be on the cards. Support could still hold along the 3 week rising trend line.
Germany’s DAX broke resistance yesterday at 9515 and is now trading back at 1 months highs of 9580. A falling trend line from early July’s highs could prove an area of resistance as the DAX looks to head back towards 10000. Weak data from Germany this morning did little to help the move north, however, with positive signals from some of the global conflict zones, the positive momentum could prevail.
The US Dow Jones set a new all-times intraday high of 17153 yesterday before pulling back toward the close of play. strong durable goods data gave the Dow Jones that little push it need to set a new all-time high. The Dow Jones futures are pointing to a positive open this afternoon which could pave the way for yet another record high. Support may be found along the 3 week rising trend line that is still intact.
